たどくらぶ 開催のお知らせと報告

みなさん、こんにちは。
RuiRuiです。
今月のたどくらぶで紹介するマザーグースは“I saw a ship a-sailing”です。


I saw a ship a-sailing,
A-sailing on the sea,
And oh, but it was laden
With pretty things for thee!

There were comfits in the cabin,
And apples in the hold;
The sails were made of silk,
And the masts were all of gold.

The four-and-twenty sailors,
That stood between the decks,
Were four-and-twenty white mice
With chains about their necks.

The captain was a duck
With a packet on his back,
And when the ship began to move
The captain said, Quack! Quack!




Imagine a gorgeous treasure ship returning to you with pretty things and delicious sweets.
The sails are made of silk and the masts are gold.
Twenty four sailors are all mice and the captain is a duck saying Quack!
This lovely ship has inspired many illustrators.

And Beatrix Potter also drew this ship although the illustration was not published.

In this rhyme the word “four-and-twenty” is used for the number 24.
This expression can also be found in other rhymes.
For example, “Sing a song of sixpence”, “Four and twenty tailors went to kill a snail”, “Barber, barber, shave a pig”, and so on.
I don’t know the reason why “four-and-twenty” appeared in many rhymes.

こんにちは、pomです。
9月12日（日）の『たどくらぶ』の報告です。
今回の『たどくらぶ』はZoomで行いました。参加者は全部で7名でした。

私は、今日は特に紹介するものもなく司会に徹していましたが、
RuiRuiさんのマザーグースの紹介から、海の話、船の話で盛りあがりました。
楽しかったです。

RuiRui です。

以前読んだSwallows and Amazons を再び読んでいます。
ストーリーを追うことに一生懸命でドンドン読み進めた前回とは違い、
今回はあちこちたっぷり寄り道を楽しみながらのゆっくり読書です。

Tea clipper, tea race, explorers, Treasure Island, Captain Flint, Captain Drake, Queen Elizabeth, Cutty Sark, sea shanties…と興味は尽きません。

だから、今回のマザーグースは迷わずI saw a ship a-sailingを選びました。

絹の帆に、金のマスト。
おいしいものをたくさん積んだ夢の船。
24匹の船員はみんなネズミで、船長はアヒル。
出航の時にクワー、クワーと鳴くのがおもしろくて。

今まで多くのイラストレーターが絵を描いています。
マザーグース絵本を家に持っている人は、
さっそく自分の本で絵を確認して見せてくれるのも
Zoom ならではのお楽しみ。

このマザーグースの中に出てくるfour and twentyという表現にも注目。
他のマザーグースでも使われているので、そちらもちょっと紹介しました。

あぁ、同じ本を読んでいる人とおしゃべりするのはなんて楽しいのでしょう。
ちょっと興奮しながらおしゃべりした今回のたどくらぶでした。

次回は10月10日です。
four and twenty 絡みのマザーグースを紹介しようと思っています。
